So, strangely enough, we get child exploitation reports.
It's just always happened. From even like 6 years ago, we've always had some unique way of stopping predators, and people come to us for help.
But now, we're embracing the reports instead of turning people away.
- Be kind, caring, empathetic, and respectful of them. Keep their information private
- If they are reporting something in a public channel, make a private channel for them, or ask them to make a ticket. Move the information they posted publicly to the private channel and delete the public messages.
- Guide them through the reporting process and help them find resources based on their needs.
- Try to focus on one step at a time and make it simple
- Try to find out if they are a minor (Ask for an age range like 14-16) but respect privacy. We should assume that people may be minors, but if they say they are an adult, feel free to encourage things like safely/legally gathering evidence
- Give good advice based on the values we agree on.
- Ask for help! From the owner, the internet, other staff.
- If there is no crime or worse kind of situation, then we can delete the private channel if every piece of information is accounted for
